Planting Trees to Honour Queen Elizabeth II …
Yarrabilba State Secondary College held a ceremony in October to celebrate the completion of their project to plant three hundred native trees. The school had received a federally funded grant as part of celebrations for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022.
At the ceremony, teacher, Inger Beulah, said the Queen had recognised the importance of trees and had wanted her Platinum Jubilee to be marked by native tree planting across her beloved Commonwealth. At YSSC, the work was a combined effort by students and staff. Hard clay soil made it a challenge, but holes were dug, and Year 10 students filled them with good soil. Students from all year levels then planted the saplings and staff spread the mulch, a massive job. The result is a native garden that will give pleasure for many years to come.
