Logan Village Social & Garden Club Creates Connections
In the last few years, many of us have found that being socially isolated is harmful to our mental health. In contrast, being socially connected, and sharing interests with others, has great value for our wellbeing. There are many groups in the local area that promote healthy social connections. And one of them is the Logan Village Garden and Social Club, which began in 1991.
Founding member Dell Challen says that fewer people lived in Logan Village then, and many were on acreage. There was a need to meet socially with others and so the club was formed around a common interest in gardening. It’s clear when talking with members that this is a group of people who enjoy each other’s company and have formed some deep friendships.
In keeping with the club’s motto, “Friends Are Flowers In The Garden Of Life”, they held a Friendship Day on the 2nd of May with invited guests.
There was fun, food, and displays of flowers, foliage, and fruits grown by members. A special treat for the keen gardeners was guest speaker, Lawrie Smith, AM. Lawrie was the Landscape Architect who designed the Roma Street Parklands and the landscape of Expo 88. Members and guests enjoyed his talk about international garden festivals around the world.
The Club welcomes new members and meets in the Logan Village Community Hall, the 1st Tuesday of each month (February to October). Outings are held on the 3rd Tuesday when possible. Please contact Hazel Greve on 0407 463 639 or hazel.greve@bigpond.com for more information.
