Museum & Doo Drop Inn Cottage – Well Worth The Visit
The Logan Village Museum is set in the Logan Village Green complex. There is a collection of historic buildings with two being original to the site, therefore heritage listed. The other buildings have been moved to the complex and renovated. All buildings except for the upper floor of the old school, and the new Railway Hut have wheelchair access.
The original school building was built in 1902 and remained as a school until 1982. The schoolhouse is used for community meetings both upstairs and down and is heritage listed.
Doo Drop Inn is a wonderful Craft Cottage where visitors can see such a unique display of homemade items. This now has wheelchair access.
The Museum house is the original Fettlers Cottage at Buccan, near Stegeman Road. This was moved to its current position in the mid 1980’s. It was first used as a secondhand shop before becoming the pride building for the museum. The Museum was officially opened in 1989, the bicentennial year.
Within the building can be found Indigenous history, photos of past music festivals and events, maps, China and crockery, musical instruments, bedroom articles of by gone times, a kitchen full of lovely heritage and vintage items. This is where you will be able to ask about the history of the area and also the genealogy of the pioneer families. There are also some books on the area for sale.
The new Pioneer Hall was built with assistance of a grant from the Logan City Council. This was completed in August in 2015. Within these walls is an impressive display of ANZAC history. This includes photos and service records for over 230 ANZACs related to the area. There is a Wedding Wall which has over 200 photos of the Pioneers and the descendants until current times. There is a display of a horse drawn buggy, saddles, sewing machines and a camera collection plus heaps more to see!
The Village Green has a lovely playground for the children which was recently upgraded and is an amazing place for children to begin their adventures and to enjoy family BBQ’s and picnics. The Village Green also has a Cenotaph which is used by the Logan Village RSL for both ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day.
I had a wonderful time exploring this hidden gem at Logan
Village and highly recommend a family visit as there is so
much to see and do. Check out the website for opening times
